The Power of Imagination
Amid the variety of recent restrictions and the challenges to family life and working patterns — many of us have found ourselves with some additional thinking time. Many across our nation and around the globe are unsure how they will emerge from the pandemic — but emerge they will.
However, we are still unsighted; into what we will emerge? This threshold is filled with terrifying and delicious possibilities.
Welcome to new possibilities.
In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown, and in between them, there are doors
William Blake
The months that lie ahead reveal an invitation to leave what we once understood as business as usual — an invitation to voluntarily enter a world where the rules and expectations are quite different. On the other side of this invitation lies an enchanted world — a world which we have known to exist from our earliest days and a world we yearn to inhabit, a world we know to be our home.
Welcome to an enchanted universe.
One of the loveliest things a person can do for another human being is to awaken the power of their imagination … because when you awaken someone’s imagination, you are giving them a new kingdom, a whole new world to explore and inhabit.
An Irish poet by the name of John O’Donohue wrote these words:
One of the fascinating things about human beings is that in contrast to stones and to water and to earth and to fields, they seem privileged and burdened with the ability to think. Every human being is inevitably involved with two worlds… the world they carry within them and the world out there.
Welcome to the world we carry within us.
The philosopher Socrates wrote:
The unexamined life isn’t worth living
Alongside the invasion of this pandemic has come a small window of opportunity not only to look outwards to support others in the community but also to look inwards and to think a little about what really matters to us in life and where we might want our lives to go in the future; the opportunity to become the ‘Chief Executive’ of the project you call your life.
Welcome to a new job.
I do think that one of the most dangerous, disappointing and damaging temptations we face as human beings is to deny or to choose to disregard the immense potential that is inside each one of us; no matter who we are or where we are.
Welcome to transformative risk.
Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.
Words from ‘For a New Beginning’ by John O’Donohue
